Suit Yourself

Want an easy outfit for work or play? Wear a suit!

In collaboration with Isabella's Wardrobe, Glasgow.

One of the easiest ways to dress is to wear a matching suit - why do you think it's the go-to attire for men, for every occasion, from work to weddings? Oops, #sorrynotsorry! But in all seriousness, if you're not confident styling a look yourself, The Suit does most of the heavy-lifting, leaving you to concentrate on the fun, finer details - top, shoes, jewellery, hair and beauty.

Just when we thought The Suit as a fashion option was over, it made a magnificent comeback in the form of sharp trousers and oversized, mannish jackets. Suits were all over the S/S18 catwalks and, while several tailoring trends emerged (going topless, going bottomless, glittering with over-adornment), one of the most wearable, and perhaps my favourite, was the slouchy, louche, oversized trouser suit, as seen at Marc Jacobs and Joseph in particular.

This gorgeous, coral-coloured trouser suit by Moschino Cheap & Chic is a lovely alternative to all the palest pastel tailoring that's everywhere right now. Although I've styled it casual-chic, I think it would make an excellent alternative to a dress for a summer wedding - just add killer heels.

Some of the best styling is the simplest. I've created a paired-down look to emphasise the mannish, slouchy cut and vibrant colour of this beautiful tailoring. Here are the details:

To complement the rich, coral colour of the suit, I've selected a fresh, white body, with a pale coral logo, by Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.  The coral-coloured drop earrings add just enough embellishment and a touch of femininity to this masculine, oversized suit, which is perfectly on-trend, despite it's pre-loved status.  Scraping my hair into a messy topknot and adding these Sojos Vision cat eye frames keeps the look unfussy and modern.  Adding the 'ugly trainers' is another nod to a trend that's permeating our Insta-feeds, and beginning to infiltrate my psyche - especially when I remember how comfy these puffy sneaks are and how fast I can walk in them! (Mine are old Nikes, similar here on sale too)!

I can't deny that I'm a hoarding shopaholic with overstuffed wardrobes! I love buying high quality clothing, but clearly it's a habit that gets expensive. One way to snag the best quality without breaking the bank, is to buy exquisite, designer pieces that are pre-loved, like this Moschino Cheap & Chic suit - click the photos to find out more from Isabella's Wardrobe or call the store on 0044 141 337 3877.

Style hair simply, in a mussed-up, unfussy topknot, and pull a few stands free for maximum insouciance. Keep make up clean by creating a smooth base, then add a pop of bright lipstick to complement the suit colour and lift your complexion.  Here I'm wearing No 7 Stay Perfect in Gay Geranium - my go-to orangey red. Add a chunky, masculine watch (mine is the N1 Rocket by Vostok Europe) and your favourite shades and you're all set (Sojos Vision)!
