Enjoy Summer with a Shot of Dopamine Dressing

As the south of the country basks in temperatures never before experienced here in the British Isles (40C is predicted for next week), in Scotland we’re struggling through with barely 2 days in a row over 20 degrees Celcius! But having never been one to take things lying down (!), I’ve found the best way to conjure summer vibes is to dress in the sunniest of colours, even if a sweater, jacket or even a boot is required!

This skirt (from H&M’s Circular Design Story) comes with it’s own little bralet! Sadly, the weather wasn’t quite bralet-appropriate when shooting, so I’m saving that for another (sunnier) day. But the colourway - red and hot pink - is every bit the warming tonic I need when summer is that tiny bit elusive.

They say the devil’s in the details, and Lord knows, I’m a details person. Whether that makes me a devil too is still up for grabs! Suffice it to say, I don’t subscribe to the Chanel school of thought - that is to remove one item / accessory before leaving the house… Hell no! I like to pile it on - jewellery, ribbons, matching bag and 2-tone lipstick. I believe in maximalism to the max!

One incredible benefit to ‘dopamine dressing’ is the effect it has on other people. There is no greater joy to me when stepping out in a bold ensemble than for it to elicit smiles and comments from others. This look drew many of these when I wore it out to dinner, drinks and a jazz gig several weeks ago. My neighbour saw me return from this shoot and was just so delighted at the colours she couldn’t stop smiling and exclaiming how beautiful it was!

Now if that’s not a good reason to get colourful this summer, I don’t know what is!
