Bossing Barbiecore
This Trend Ain’t Going Anywhere (…Yay)! It’s Time to Think Pink!
It’s no secret that I’m a colour-lover… bright colour at that! And when it comes to so-called Barbiecore pink, I simply have no willpower at all!
Colour theory suggests that the colour pink has mostly positive association: it is variously thought to connote femininity, romance, joy, playfulness, warmth and innocence. Pink is a colour that evokes optimism and unconditional love and has been shown to have a calming effect (if temporarily) on those exposed to the lighter shades. So it’s not by accident that I selected Barbiecore pink to represent my brand.
Recently, Valentino, under the creative direction of Pierpaolo Piccioli, unleashed a whole monochromatic catwalk collection in a newly created Pantone shade of pink called Pink PP by Valentino. The ripple effect can be seen across design houses and high street fashion alike. Thank you Pierpaolo - you’ve given this fashionista a brand new excuse to rock it in pink!
I recently took stock of the number of pink dresses I had stashed away in my wardrobe… I’m vaguely ashamed to admit I’ve made it into double-digits! The mid-teens to be honest. Ok it’s 18! But that’s not all Barbiecore pink… there are some paler options in there too and style-wise they’re all completely different… Convinced by my pathetic attempt at justification? I know I’m not!
Never Miss a Thing!

So it was a complete departure, when, strolling through House of Fraser one random Saturday morning, I chanced across this insanely beautiful trouser suit (on sale) in The Kooples department. While not a brand I’ve indulged in much to date, I was instantly attracted to the sharp, yet feminine tailoring, the colour (of course) and the incredible, friendly and attentive service I received from the ladies who helped me. Not something you find every day on the great British High St, sadly.
Although it was the height of summer, and buying an investment suit was not in the budget (!), I was thoroughly charmed by the suit itself, the aforementioned sales assistants and by the fact I was starting a new job in a couple of months and this suit would certainly have a place in my working wardrobe (minus the bralet, of course).
Sometimes in fashion, as in life, things are simply meant to be and we’re powerless to resist. And so it was with my Bossbabe Barbiecore Pink Suit. I officially start the new job tomorrow, and while I might not be wearing the pink suit on my first day, the positivity and power of PINK will be with me in spirit as I take on this new challenge.
