How to Style Summer Separates | Part I: Mostly Monochrome
Sponsored post In collaboration with Katch Me.
With ever-reducing baggage allowances, and unpredictable global weather patterns, whether you’re staycationing or globetrotting, it pays to learn the art of styling separates.
Look I: St Tropez for the Day
While many may say that a crop top should not be seen on a woman over a certain age, I beg to differ! Of course there are limits - stying limits - to how you wear them, but if you feel confident and it makes you happy, YOU DO YOU!
The key, for me, is in the proportion of flesh to fabric on show. In a similar way to the unwritten rule about legs or décolletage, (ie only one on show at a time), when styling a crop top, it’s best to team it with a high-waisted piece that covers most of the tummy, leaving only a small border of torso flesh on show. This is particularly true when the top in question is sleeveless and low-cut, as with mine from Katch Me.

Look II: Urban Safari
Ok, so like most rules, styling rules are made to be broken - these cycling shorts by Katch Me aren’t exactly high-waisted, but they’re not low-cut either, and the addition of an oversized, mannish blazer dials down the sexiness. This athleisure-tailoring mash-up would work well for a day of sightseeing on a warm, summer city break, or even for a short haul flight to a sunny destination. The crossbody bag keeps things handsfree and easy for airport navigation or jumping on and off a city subway or tram.
Look III: Beige Aesthetic
Wrapping up this focus on the strappy crop top with more trousers, this time featuring a paper-bag waist, which is perfect for closing that gap at the tummy! The pleated front, reminiscent of Katherine Hepburn’s inimitable chic, ensures the trousers don’t cling, retaining a classiness that offsets the more revealing nature of the top.
So what are your thoughts on the crop? Would you date to bare a little midriff? Let me know in the comments.
Thanks for reading!
