Why a Co-ord is the Hero Piece You Need this Summer

As baggage allowances get smaller, and even scheduled airlines charge for checked bags, it’s more important than ever to make your holiday wardrobe go further. No-one wants to be slapped with an excess baggage charge before you even take off, am I right?

Enter The Co-Ord! Essentially a matching set of two items - a top paired with skirt, trousers or shorts - it’s a style revelation for more reasons than one!

Brick by Brick

Building a holiday wardrobe is all about versatility and including a co-ord set gives you a strong and glamorous foundation onto which you can layer your favourite summer staples - white jeans, shorts, vests, t-shirts and even bikini tops. It has the added advantage that, if you’re different sizes on the top and bottom, and struggle to find comfortable dresses or jumpsuits for your body shape, you can easily find your perfect fit with a co-ord.

The co-ord is at it’s best when in a pretty print, in colours that you love. These can become the cornerstone colours of your capsule wardrobe.

Here, I’ve selected a versatile floral print in a mixture of sea and sunset tones, from red and orange to true blue and aquamarine. The fact the print includes an equal amount of white lets me pair the set easily with a white bag, shoes and jewellery - my holiday must-haves.

White earrings, clutch, wedges and even white sunglasses pair perfectly with summer prints that have an element of white in them. They also work with most summer colours, so if you select your clothes carefully, you may not need to pack any alternatives (except your flip-flops and a beach bag, of course).

Milk Maid Style or OTS

The top itself can be worn 2 ways - classic off-the-shoulder style (below), or pulled up, milk maid-style (as above), giving it a more cropped look. You decide what you dare to bare!

Break it Down

As I said, we need our holiday wardrobes to work hard for us, and this is where the co-ord really shines. When taken apart, the co-ord can create an almost infinite number of options. As I’ve done below, try to select separates that work well with your chosen print. Ubiquitous summer must-haves like blue jean cutoffs and white denim are ideal for pairing with this little top. Similarly, a crisp white vest, bodysuit or t-shirt are ideal to extend the scope of your chosen maxi skirt or trousers.

To mix up my look a bit more, I’ve introduced coral accessories in the form of statement necklace and pendant earrings. Not worn together - worn to change up the look of the separates, just like tying my hair in a topknot or ponytail for a different look that’ll keep me cool in the summer heat.

What do you think of the summer co-ord? Can you imagine wearing all this print altogether, or would you prefer the mix and match of classic jeans and t-shirts. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
